1: JIS S48C steel introduction
S48C medium carbon steel has moderate strength and hardness to meet the requirements of general engineering applications.S48C has good toughness, i.e., it can withstand large deformations without fracture when subjected to force.S48C is easy to cut and cold deformation machining, suitable for the manufacture of a variety of parts and tools.

6: Heat Treatment
Annealing
S48C is heated to an appropriate annealing temperature, generally ranging from 740°C to 800°C, held for a period of time and then slowly cooled to room temperature. Annealing treatment helps to improve the organization and plasticity of S48C, reduce residual stresses and improve machinability.
Hardening
Heat S48C to an appropriate quenching temperature, generally ranging from 800°C to 870°C, and then cool rapidly to room temperature. Quenching increases the hardness and strength of S48C carbon steel, but decreases the toughness.
Tempering
Normalized or quenched S48C is heated to an appropriate tempering temperature, generally in the range of 150°C to 300°C, held for a period of time and then cooled to room temperature. Tempering treatment reduces the hardness and strength of S48C carbon steel while increasing the toughness.
For hot rolled plate, usually the delivery condition is hot rolled, annealed, black surface.
